FAQs

You ask... We answer.

Everything you need to know about our training methods and expertise.
Do We Train Aggressive or Reactive Dogs?

Yes. Our training methodology and pedagogy is geared towards stability, boundaries and you building an intrinsic connection with your dog. All of which are core components of working with aggressive or reactive dogs, and working with you on moving past traumatic encounters you and your dog have had.

As dog behaviorist in Costa Rica, we know firsthand some environmental issues that arise which is why we hold semi-monthly reactive/aggressive dog obedience classes in Tamarindo, Costa Rica and at our nearby training center to compliment our immersive board and train program.

Do We Offer In-home Dog Training?
We offer off-site and in-home dog obedience training upon request. The prerequisite to a home training session is our Tropic K9 two-week Foundation Obedience Board + Train or private dog training sessions at our training center prior to off-site or in-home training.
What is an Executive Protection Dog?
An Executive Protection Dog is trained to respond either on command, or in response to aggression, to protect one handler.
What is a Family Protection Dog?
A Family Protection Dog is a highly trained dog that will integrate into your family the same as any other pet dog. The difference is that your family protection dog has been trained to mitigate a threat, either on command, or in response to aggression, to protect you and your family. Think of it as a loyal bodyguard, who instinctively can tell the difference between a good guy and a bad guy.
Are we the best protection dog trainers in Costa Rica?

Yes. Tropic K9 Costa Rica is internationally known for breeding, raising and training our signature bloodlines of Belgian Malinois and Dutch Shepherds. We breed for stability, intelligence and workability. Our dogs have the ability to problem solve, the drive to push through difficult situations and the stability to integrate seamlessly into your home and work life.

Our working dogs begin as puppies training on smaller equipment and progress to multilayered, cross-disciplined physical conditioning building up their muscle strength, stamina and insight into the full use of their mind and their bodies making them the most discerning, agile and insightful protectors available. Becoming both your best friend and forthright protector.

Why do we use obstacles in our training?

Obedience and agility form the foundation bond between handler and dog. Obedience is not the natural state of a dog, or human for that matter. By having the dog master an obstacle, we are taking the focus off the obedience the dog is actually learning and putting the focus on completing the obstacle. The happy confidence gained by the dog is extraordinary. A confident, focused and agile dog smoothly flows into the day-to-day boundaries allowing that obedience to become a natural state.
